Relative newcomers to the fly-fishing market, Swedish firm NAM is quickly building a reputation for innovation, quality, and style. Two of their latest products are the Scandi Integrated Shooting Heads and Adaptive Skagit Bellies.
NAM’s shooting heads feature a classic Scandinavian taper with a long front section. This design improves flight stability and presentation. The taper works well for both bottom-hand and top-hand casting.
Part of the N-Type (‘no room’) series, these heads are built for tight casting spaces. They load fast, making them ideal where room for a back cast is limited.
Available in floating line weights from 6 to 9, the lines include a thin integrated running line. This removes the need for bulky loop-to-loop connections, which can cause hinging.
Each head is built on a high-density, low-stretch core with a smooth, supple coating. The result is excellent performance and handling in a range of fishing conditions.
The only drawback is colour coding. All the lines have the same pale blue head with a darker blue running line. With no printed identification, it can be difficult to tell different weights apart quickly.
NAM’s Adaptive Skagit Bellies are designed with a straighter belly profile. This adds stability and allows longer flight through the air.
They are available in:
Each balances with standard T-tips but can also be used with tapered or poly tips from 10ft to 15ft, depending on the rod.
The lines come in two versions:
The Float/S3 option is particularly effective on large rivers or in early spring when fish hold deeper.
NAM continues to impress with forward-thinking design. Both the Scandi Shooting Heads and Adaptive Skagit Bellies offer excellent casting stability, durability, and handling. Anglers looking for innovative fly lines will find these new additions worth serious consideration.
