Fishery closes after operator collapse

One of Derbyshire’s best-known trout fisheries has closed after the operator went into liquidation.

Carsington Sport and Leisure, which ran the 750-acre reservoir’s fishery for 33 years, ceased trading on 1 December. Staff have been made redundant.

The company said: “This is a very difficult time for us all as so many of our staff have given many years of their life to support our company.”

.

Thanks to staff and supporters

It added: “We want to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us – our amazing customers, our dedicated staff past and present, the local businesses and NGBs we’ve partnered with, and of course Severn Trent Water Ltd.”

.

Liquidation and future plans

The company, which leased the site from Severn Trent Water, has been placed into creditors’ voluntary liquidation. Its business and assets were auctioned by John Pye Auctions, with the deadline for offers passing on 12 January. At the time of writing, the outcome was not yet known.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said the water company would be working with a property agent to “get another operator in for summer 2026”.

Fishery faces uncertain future

The fishery stocked rainbow and brown trout to 8lb and operated a fleet of 20 boats. The future remains uncertain for anglers hoping to fish the reservoir in 2026.
