As the Atlantic waters begin their seasonal warming this June, the international angling community is shifting its focus to a singular, breathtaking destination: Puerto de Mogán, Gran Canaria. Known globally for its iconic canals, vibrant bougainvillea, and golden sunsets, this picturesque fishing village is far more than a postcard-perfect resort. From June 18th to 20th, 2026, it will transform into the epicenter of European sport fishing as it hosts the much-anticipated Canarian Fishing Event (CFE) 2026.

Why Mogán? The gateway to the abyss

Mogán’s reputation among big-game hunters is legendary. Situated on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria, the port is shielded from the prevailing trade winds, offering exceptionally calm waters year-round. However, it is what lies beneath the surface that truly excites.

Just a few miles from the harbor, the ocean floor drops into deep volcanic trenches. In June, the North Atlantic currents bring a massive migration of baitfish, followed closely by the ocean’s apex predators. This is the peak window for the Blue Marlin—the undisputed king of the Atlantic. Anglers participating in the CFE 2026 will have the opportunity to battle titans that often exceed 500 pounds, all while adhering to strict Catch & Release protocols to ensure the sustainability of this magnificent species.

A tournament of two halves: big game vs. bottom fishing

The CFE 2026 is designed to be inclusive yet highly competitive, catering to different angling disciplines through two main categories:

  1. The Big Game Category: Following IGFA standards, this category is the ultimate test of endurance and skill. Teams from across Europe and America will compete for the heaviest “release” count of Blue and White Marlin. The adrenaline of a Marlin breach against the backdrop of the Canarian cliffs is an experience that stays with a fisherman forever.
  2. The Bottom Fishing Category: While the Marlin grab the headlines, the Canarian waters are equally famous for their incredible biodiversity. This category targets powerful local species such as the Amberjack (Medregal), Snapper (Sama), and various rockfish. It is a highly technical discipline requiring deep knowledge of the volcanic sea beds, providing constant action and rewarding skill over pure luck.

The “Fishing Village”: the heart of the event

The CFE 2026 transcends the competition at sea. For three days, the main pier of Puerto de Mogán becomes the Fishing Village, a vibrant hub designed for participants, sponsors, and the general public.

1. Brand Exhibition & Trade Zone This year, we have significantly expanded our exhibition area. Top-tier nautical brands, tackle manufacturers, and boat dealers will showcase the latest in marine technology. From high-end sonar systems to the newest lures designed specifically for Atlantic waters, the exhibition zone is a must-visit for anyone looking to upgrade their gear. It’s also a premier networking spot where brand representatives can engage directly with a highly qualified audience of boat owners and professional anglers.

2. Interactive Workshops and Masterclasses Education and sustainability are core pillars of the CFE. Throughout the daytime, the village will host a series of workshops led by professional skippers and marine biologists. Topics will include:

  • Advanced Lure Rigging: Mastering the art of the spread for Marlin.
  • Sustainable Fishing Practices: Understanding the importance of tag-and-release and the local ecosystem.
  • Electronics Mastery: How to get the most out of your 3D fish-finding technology.

Family, culture, and daytime events

We understand that many international teams travel with their families. To ensure everyone enjoys the Mogán experience, we have curated a schedule of daytime events that celebrate local culture:

  • Gastronomy Tastings: Savor the “Tuna of Mogán” and other local delicacies prepared by top Canarian chefs.
  • Guided Coastal Tours: For those not competing, organized boat trips will explore the hidden sea caves and pristine beaches of the Mogán coastline.
  • Kids’ Fishing Clinic: A fun, educational introduction to catch-and-release for the next generation of anglers.

The grand finale: music and celebration

As the sun sets on the final day of competition, the atmosphere shifts from competitive focus to pure celebration. The trophy presentation ceremony is a high-energy event where the champions are crowned under the stars.

The highlight of the closing night will be a live concert by the renowned Canarian band “Aseres”. Known for their infectious rhythm and “feel-good” Atlantic sound, Aseres will turn the harbor into a massive celebration, bringing together locals and international visitors in a dance that marks the successful end of the tournament.

With professional docking facilities, a world-class fleet, and the legendary hospitality of Gran Canaria, Puerto de Mogán is ready to welcome the world. Whether you are coming to compete for the top prize or simply to soak in the atmosphere of the Atlantic’s most beautiful fishing village, the CFE 2026 is an event you cannot afford to miss.
