When Patagonia launched its Swiftcurrent Expedition zip-front waders, they were hailed as the brand’s toughest-ever all-season waders. That claim still stands – but their design has evolved. They are now lighter, stronger and more environmentally responsible, thanks to an updated 5.6oz upper material that reduces bulk without compromising durability, and an ultra-tough 9.4oz lower fabric offering greater abrasion resistance.

These waders are built with long-term comfort and performance in mind. A gusseted crotch, along with an articulated seat and legs, provides a roomier fit than some competing models, offering excellent mobility in and out of the water. The cut has been re-patterned to reduce seam stress and to allow for easier repairs, should they be needed over time. Additional features include low-bulk anatomical booties, removable foam kneepads, and heavy-duty scuff guards – all contributing to day-long wading comfort.

The Swiftcurrent Expedition remains as feature-rich as ever, with a submersible YKK front zip – an absolute godsend when pulling the waders on and off, as well as when taking waterside relief. Adjustable shoulder straps allow for easy conversion from chest- to waist-high fit, and an elasticated wading belt ensures post-lunch comfort.

Externally

The waders include two fleece-backed handwarmer pockets and two vertical zipped chest pockets for spare tippet and fly-boxes. There are also tool and pack attachment points at the chest, along with a low-profile net loop at the rear.

Internally

You’ll find a stretch zipped pocket, a drop-in pocket for smaller items, and a removable, fully submersible pouch designed to keep valuables such as keys, phones or paperwork safe and dry.

These waders from Patagonia are neither the lightest nor the cheapest on the market, but their exceptional features, robust build quality and dependable performance – backed by a free Europe-based after-sales repair service (note: a shipping fee may apply) – secure their place as one of the finest all-season waders available today.
