They’ve stood the test

A long-term review of Patagonia Forra wading boots. Exceptionally lightweight, durable Cordura uppers, strong Vibram sole, stud-ready grip and all-day comfort on river or coast.

They’ve stood the test

The Editor writes: I’ve been wearing Patagonia Forra wading boots for a while now. I chose them
primarily for their weight – just 41oz (2.5lb). They’re light, even fitted with studs.
Over the last year or so, the other description that springs to my mind is their durability. I’m a serial
offender for not looking after kit as well as I should or could. The Cordura upper material is tough
and rot-proof, unlike others I’ve owned. Even if they stay in my van for a few days after wading in a
river, they come out looking as good as new.

The sole is securely attached and has shown no signs of parting company with the upper, even
after clambering on rocks, sliding down banks and trampling through mud.

I will often walk long distances in my wading boots and the Forra’s lightness has been a game- changer. I like studs in my boots, preferring a belt-and-braces approach. The Vibram sole is grippy, but I still prefer studs – just in case.

Despite the boots’ lightness, there is ample support for my ankles, if I wade in rocky rivers. For the many of us who head to the coast in search of bass and mullet, the boots are saltwater- proof, but it’s probably sensible to hose them down after use, just to be on the safe side.

Wading boots are probably never going to be considered a glamour item, but these are comfortable from the moment they are taken out of the box. They’re also easy to pull on and take off.

Did I say they were light?
I go one size up for my wading boots and I had no issues with the Forra’s fit.
