There is increasing demand for lightweight wading boots that can comfortably handle long hikes to remote rivers while still delivering the grip, support and durability needed for technical wading. The new Simms Access Boot has been designed specifically for that purpose, offering a true “trail-to-river” solution for adventurous anglers who regularly venture off the beaten track.

Sole and grip

Built in partnership with Vibram, the Access Boot features a dual-compound GOAT (Grip On Aquatic Terrain) outsole engineered for mixed environments. A softer IdroGrip Flex compound through the centre maximises traction on wet rocks and slippery riverbeds, while firmer IdroGrip sections around the edges improve durability and stability on rough trails and uneven ground. The result is a versatile sole unit that performs confidently both on the hike in and once in the water.

Comfort and features

Comfort and support are equally well considered. A cushioned EVA midsole helps absorb impact during long walks and rocky wades, while reinforced overlays and a supportive heel counter provide extra stability when navigating difficult terrain. The lightweight TPU woven upper promotes breathability and drainage, helping prevent water retention and reducing fatigue after repeated immersion.

Practical features include integrated drainage ports, corrosion-resistant brass hardware and compatibility with Simms cleats and studs for anglers needing additional grip in demanding conditions.

The Simms Access Boot is clearly aimed at the modern mobile angler — light enough for extended approaches yet robust enough to inspire confidence during technical wading. While positioned at the premium end of the market, its thoughtful construction, advanced outsole technology and all-terrain performance help justify the investment for serious fly fishers and river anglers.
