The new Spectre Waders from Snowbee are a breathable, triple-layer design that feels lightweight to wear yet reassuringly robust. Their sizing and generous cut, based on the company’s best-selling Ranger2 model, provide ample room around the knees and groin, allowing free movement even when climbing or sitting.

The construction comprises three layers: a high-quality 70 x 500 denier Taslon nylon outer laminated to Snowbee’s tried and tested Vapour-Tec breathable membrane. Inside, a laminated Tricot lining adds extra strength and durability. On the stockingfoot model, the three-panel booties are made from 4mm neoprene and feature built-in elasticated gravel guards and lace hooks. The bootfoot version comes with comfortable PVC-moulded boots with deep-cleated soles and heels, offering good grip on mud, sand, and gravel – although some anglers might prefer an option with felt and or studs.

What features do they have?

A welcome addition is the Y-shaped elasticated brace system with chunky quick-release buckles – also used on Snowbee’s flagship Prestige STX2 waders – which are both more comfortable and easier to operate than those on earlier models.

At the front, a large fleece-lined handwarmer pocket provides a refuge for chilled fingers, while the waterproof zipped pocket above is roomy enough to hold a medium-sized fly-box and a couple of tippet spools. Inside, a zipped (though not waterproof) flip pocket offers secure storage for keys and other small items. An elasticated drawcord at the top allows you to adjust the fit when adding or removing mid-layers, while an adjustable belt keeps the fit snug and helps prevent bunching lower down.

The new Spectre Waders may not boast the bells and whistles of some high-end models, but they are comfortable, practical and equipped with all the features needed to do the job – at a price that won’t break the bank.

Technical and environmental benefits

The Spectre’s three-layer construction provides a water pressure resistance of 10,000mm and a breathability rating (MVT) of 4,000g/m²/24hrs. A major advantage of this new model is its use of an environmentally friendly DWR coating, a feature currently found only on a handful of top-end models and brands. This premium C0 coating offers the same durability as the more commonly used C6 coatings, but without the inclusion of potentially harmful synthetic perfluorinated chemicals.
