New date for clean water protest

The environment group River Action has moved its March for Clean Water to Sunday, 3 November, mustering at the Albert Embankment at 11am. Marchers are being encouraged to wear blue clothing.

River Action’s Charles Watson said, “Thousands of people and more than 90 charities, organisations and community groups have pledged their support to the family-friendly March for Clean Water. It promises to be a positive, loud and colourful demonstration of the public’s outrage at the dire state of the UK’s polluted rivers, seas and lakes.”

Well-known figures supporting the march include Feargal Sharkey (pictured), Bear Grylls, Stephen Fry, Chris Packham and Jo Brand.

Among the groups taking to the streets are Trout & Salmon, the National Trust, Women’s Institute, the universities of Manchester and Bangor, Wildfish, Fish Legal, Angling Trust, Wild Trout Trust, Save the Wye, The Rivers Trust, Friends of the Earth, WWF, Greenpeace, RSPB, Keep Britain Tidy and the CPRE.
